Dhani does not deny that his lyrics began with an attempt to open up some kind of a religious discourse. In fact, he admits his fondness for controversial Sufi figures. It is still early in the morning. The day’s heat has yet to be felt. But not so in the infotainment programme on television. The camera is fixed on one man, and this man is announcing sternly, “A few of the lyrics and the pictures used by Dewa in their album have been taken from a poem by a heretical movement in the Middle East.” On the screen, you could read the caption which identifies them, Pertahanan Ideologi Syariat Islam (Perisai) [The Defence of the Islamic Ideology and Law]. Tapi Agus Suwage memilih melukis Munir dengan rokok. Kutipan sajak “Aku Ingin Hidup Seribu Tahun Lagi” yang menjadi judul lukisan itu, mengingatkan pada Chairil Anwar, sang pencipta bait puisi. Dalam potretnya yang paling populer, Chairil juga sedang menghisap sebatang rokok. Untuk seri lukisan ini, Suwage juga melukis wajah Putri Diana, Marilyn Monroe dan Bob Marley. Semua tokoh dunia yang mati muda. Dalam lukisan-lukisan wajah itu Suwage ingin menghadirkan perbenturan. “Idenya kontradiksi antara kenginan hidup dan rokok yang merupakan simbol penyebab kematian” kata Suwage. Suwage memamerkan seri lukisan ini, pertama kalinya, pada Bali Biennale tahun 2005. Awalnya dia lukis dengan cat air di atas kertas, lantas dia perbesar ke atas kanvas berukuran 1,5x21,2 meter.
